Owen was in the Army Cadet Force from the age of 12 and always knew that he wanted to join the forces, which he did straight after finishing school. In 2009 he was deployed to Afghanistan, serving for the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment, and just 3 months later was injured when he stepped on an explosive device.

Carl was a member of First Battalion, the Rifles for 5 years. He was hit by the blast from a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan, in 2009, just after his 24th birthday. The damage from shrapnel shattered his femur and severed his sciatic nerve. Surgery has left him with a right leg almost two inches shorter than the left.

Ross has always been a really active person and was a keen footballer prior to joining the forces. Having served in the Army for twelve years, he was on Operations with a Commando Engineer Regiment in Afghanistan in 2008 when he was injured in an explosion. His leg and knee were shattered and since then he has undergone over 20 operations. Ross then had to make to very difficult decision, due to the severity of his injuries, to have his leg amputated above the knee.

The Training Room is the UK's largest Personal Trainer course provider and helps many people each year begin their careers in the fitness industry. Becoming part of the fitness industry seems to be a logical step for many people upon leaving the forces and we are, therefore, proud to be supporting Help for Heroes in the life changing role it plays in supporting injured service men and women.
