Heather Fell - Modern Pentathalon

Heather Fell

Heather was forced to stop training at the University of Bath and moved back home with her parents, funding her continued training with three part-time jobs: as a swimming coach, a barmaid and a physiotherapist.

She qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympics without funding and went on to win Silver and finish the year ranked No.1 in the World. 2009 brought more medals at the European Championships and Heather remains Britain's No.1 female Pentathlete.

"Winning an Olympic Silver medal was an amazing experience however the opportunity to do something similar in front of a home crowd is just mind blowing. I can't wait for London 2012 and I hope that you enjoy following me on my journey there."

Heather is very popular with the media and the corporate speaking circuit due to her bubbly personality and inspiring story of triumph over adversity. Her plan is to make London 2012 her swansong and fully intends to end her career on a high by winning a medal in front of her home crowd.

This is the most important season in four years for any athlete involved in an Olympic sport and it is now well underway. For me as a modern pentathlete I am currently half way through three domestic competitions. These lead to the next stage in qualifying as they will decide who is given the opportunity to compete a the first couple of world cups in the spring.

This may be our period of winter training when the mileage is upped, the weights are heavy and the hours are long but there are still plenty of competitions to keep us fresh. I personally enjoy competing and enter several events in the individual sports. On top of two full pentathlons I have run in several cross country races, fenced in three British opens and swum for Devon masters at the team regional championships. I managed to do plenty of decent training over the Christmas and New Year period and having just returned from an altitude training camp in the French Pyrenees, I am ready to take on the first World Cups of the 2012 season which I have been selected for.
