Beth Tweddle MBE

Beth Tweddle

Beth is Britain's most successful gymnast, she is 3 time World Champion, double European Champion for the second year running as well as National Champion. She is a double Olympian and has her eyes firmly set on a medal at the London Olympics 2012.

Beth is the most successful gymnast in Britain and has retained her World and European titles for the second successive year. She is only the 5th person in history to hold World titles in two different disciplines. Beth's second World Championship title came at the age of 24, making her the only non-teenaged athlete to have won an Olympic or World title since 2003, a feat heralded as the greatest ever achieved by a British athlete of either sex in the history of the sport. Beth is now classed as a veteran in her sport and has once again defied her critics by achieving another World title and European title.

"I won a World title infront of a home crowd and I can tell you the difference it made, it was awesome, the crowd really lifted me and that's why I want to compete at London 2012 as I know it'll be a once in a lifetime experience"

Over the past couple of months since we found out we have qualified for the Olympics I have just been training, training and more training. It was such a relief to gain that team Olympic qualification spot in Tokyo and meant that I had a period of 4 months of just training which I haven't had for a long time. This has enabled me to allow my body to fully recover for the year ahead and look at my routines ahead of the summer. I start competing at the beginning of March and that will just be a "dust the cobwebs away competition" to get me back into the routine of competing. After that it will be full steam ahead with various competitions all over the world in preparation for the Games. Prior to the Games I will have the European Championships in May which will be a great bench mark with it happening only 2 months prior to the start of the Olympics.

The Olympics is every athletes dream but with it happening in the UK it is a massive bonus. I hope you will all be tuning in come the summer to support Team GB in everyway possible.

New Year

"So the Christmas and New Year period is over and I am back in full training. I have European trials coming up at the end of February so all my preparation work is geared towards that now. Europeans are at the beginning of April in Berlin and before that I will have 3 trials to be selected onto the team.

My main aim for 2011 is to help the GB team qualify for the 2012 Olympics by placing in the top 8 teams at the World Championships in Tokyo in October. 2011 will be a tough year as I will be going to the Worlds and Europeans as a defending Champion but definitely looking forward to the challenge.
