I'm currently a tutor at The Training Room Academy in Newcastle
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING FOR THE TRAINING ROOM?
4 years 3 months, (1 year 3 months Newcastle and 3 years at Cardiff academy)
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?
Working as a Personal Trainer/Sports massage therapist at a small fitness club in Wiltshire.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO WORK IN HEALTH AND FITNESS?
I was a communicator in the Royal Navy for 6 years. I decided to help people to achieve their fitness and lifestyle goals, as I found exercise to really improve my life in demanding environments. I felt everyone should have the opportunity to benefit like I have.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT IN YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS CAREER SO FAR?
Wow, there are so many in 13 years! My favourite times have been in influencing people to achieve things they previously deemed impossible. I have been invited to client’s weddings and introduced to their families and friends at gatherings. My longest client has been 8 years with me!
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A TUTOR AT THE TRAINING ROOM?
Love for passing my knowledge and experience on and big passion for providing the best quality fitness professionals to the fitness industry.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO SUCCEED?
Feedback from the club managers that our Training Room graduate Personal Trainers go to. We are getting noticed to the point that our corporate partners are only wanting TTR Trainers due to the quality of service and happy customer feedback. This makes me very happy!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF DELIVERING THE TRAINING ROOM PT COURSE?
I like delivering the free weight sections of the course the most along with functional training. I also really like delivering the business aspect, and linking all the knowledge based lessons to the successful acquisition of a full client base.
WHAT IS YOUR OWN PERSONAL FAVOURITE WORKOUT?
I really like the FST-7, DF3 and superset training systems incorporated into my hypertrophy training.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU AREN’T TEACHING OR WORKING?
Fitness is deep seeded into my lifestyle so I’m usually finding new health and fitness information and my own fitness training. I also have a really comfortable sofa and big TV so I like watching that!
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?
That would have to be Ice cream.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEBODY CONSIDERING A CAREER IN PERSONAL TRAINING?
If you do something you love doing, then all aspects of your life will be improved. If you are unhappy with what you are currently doing unless you change something, it will stay the same. Go for It!
