Sam
Sam Tucknott - From Football To Fitness

Sam Tucknott turned to The Training Room after his plans to play football professionally didn’t work out. Sam started his football career at the age of 12 when he joined Crystal Palace academy. He was there for five years before moving to Wycombe Wanderers for two years. But at the age of 19, as so often happens, Sam’s contract wasn’t renewed and he had to face the fact his professional career was over.

Help-for-Heroes
Help For Heroes Student - Owen Pick

Owen was in the Army Cadet Force from the age of 12 and always knew that he wanted to join the forces, which he did straight after finishing school. In 2009 he was deployed to Afghanistan, serving for the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment, and just 3 months later was injured when he stepped on an explosive device.

Carl Anstey - Help for Heroes Student

Carl was a member of First Battalion, the Rifles for 5 years. He was hit by the blast from a rocket-propelled grenade in Afghanistan, in 2009, just after his 24th birthday. The damage from shrapnel shattered his femur and severed his sciatic nerve. Surgery has left him with a right leg almost two inches shorter than the left.

Help For Heroes Student - Ross Austen

Ross has always been a really active person and was a keen footballer prior to joining the forces. Having served in the Army for twelve years, he was on Operations with a Commando Engineer Regiment in Afghanistan in 2008 when he was injured in an explosion. His leg and knee were shattered and since then he has undergone over 20 operations. Ross then had to make to very difficult decision, due to the severity of his injuries, to have his leg amputated above the knee.

Our Students - Phil White's Story

Ever since I was young lad I have always been bullied and teased for my weight, however I have always been a keen sportsman, taking part in football, cricket, and badminton and becoming a national finalist in boxing. From the age of 16 I was always interested in coaching sport and wanted to work in the leisure industry. It wasn’t until I saw The Training Room course advertised that I decided it was time for a change.

Goldie Sayers - London 2012

In my last blog I said that I wanted a memorable Olympic Games. Well it certainly was memorable but unfortunately not necessarily for the reasons that I wished for!
