So you’ve decided that you want to become a Personal Trainer? Wonderful! (Cue the unprecedented elation!)
But wait...Where do you actually start? What Qualifications do you need?
We’ve all been there - that great idea buzz, that ‘on-top-of-the-world’ feeling that you get when you finally decide what direction you want to take you life in. Whether it’s a first-job, a career-change or re-entering the workspace after some time off, on maternity leave, for example. First there is the elation of making the decision, inside you’re screaming ‘I’ve found my calling - THIS is what I want to do’...only minutes later to be bought crashing down to earth when you realise you don’t have a clue about how to get into the field, how to make yourself stand out and if you’re qualified to do the job.
The same is true of becoming a Personal Trainer - and unfortunately a burning passion for all things fitness and a ‘go-getter’ attitude isn’t enough (although it helps) to be qualified as a Personal Trainer.
You will need formal qualifications to secure a job as a PT in the fitness industry.
First things first - Stop panicking! The very reason that we wrote this blog was in order to tell you about the
Personal Trainer courses that we offer at the The Training Room, from what you’ll learn to how you can study; we’ve got it covered.
Personal Trainer Qualifications Offered by The Training Room
Let’s start by talking about the qualifications that we provide at The Training Room.
We’re proud to follow the Active IQ Level 3 in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training which encompasses both the Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and the Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training. Overall, this gives you a very comprehensive qualification which will enable you to enter the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer, fully qualified at the highest entry level. The Active IQ has the additional bonus of being internationally recognised, meaning that once qualified you’re free to work in an array of places and countries - pretty cool, huh?
But what does the Personal Trainer course cover?
So now we’ve established what the course it that you’ll follow with The Training Room, let us explore the Active IQ in a little more detail:
The Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing:
The Level 2 certificate gives you the foundation knowledge and teaches you the principles of fitness, health and exercise. It covers everything from health and safety to supporting clients, as well as everything in-between, including planning and teaching gym based exercise.
The Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training:
The Level 3 certificate builds on the knowledge developed in Level 2. It expands on the teachings about anatomy and physiology, as well as exploring nutrition in regards to an exercise plan. The Level 3, personal training focused, second part of the overall course really drills down to the details on personal training; covering working closely with clients, devising PT plans and delivering personal training sessions.
In addition at The Training Room we will give you the edge when completing your training with us as we include additional CPD (continuing professional development) courses. These cover specialist areas, including but not limited to: Studio Cycling (Spinning), Gym Based Boxing and Metabolic Conditioning Training (Circuit Training).
