Quick Guide To Clearing

If you were one of the thousands of students opening their A-Level results last week, we hope you got the grades you wanted. Results day can be an incredibly stressful time, but it’s the steps you take on receiving those 3 letters that are most crucial. Regardless of the outcome, there are always alternatives available.

Still unsure which path to take? Decided full-time education’s for you? You’re not too late to try Clearing. Here’s a quick guide to get you started.

Keep calm in clearing

If you haven’t received any offers or didn’t achieve the grades you were expecting, Clearing is definitely an option. It’s the opportunity to discover new courses and universities you may not have originally considered.

The Clearing process runs from July to September, so there’s still time for you to find the perfect course. It’s simple; just use the UCAS search tool to identify which courses are still available. Once you’ve chosen one that interests you, we then recommend you contact the course providers directly to see if they’ll offer you a place. Even if your results are a little lower than required; if the space is free, there’s still the chance you could be accepted.

By checking your Track status, you can find out if you’re in Clearing or not. The university or college you’re interested in will be able to assist you with this process.

Top Tips

Speak to those in the know, a university adviser or a member of the UCAS team, for suggestions on what to do next. Consider other courses you have an interest in. Clearing could take you in a completely new direction. If you’ve had your heart set on a particular university, don’t be afraid to give them a call. Whatever your results, there’s always options.

Alternatively, there’s nothing stopping you from leaving full-time education altogether in favour of a gap year or a different type of training, such as one of our Personal Training Courses. The government are really pushing the value of apprenticeships at the moment, so it’s well worth thinking about.

Good luck!
