How to Incorporate Coconut Oil into a Beauty Regime

Coconut Oil
There are very few beauty products that can boast the multi-tasking qualities that coconut oil can.

Hailed as a wonder product by supermodel Miranda Kerr and actress Blake Lively, it was the must-have product of 2015, with Sainsbury's reporting a 442% increase in sales last year.

So what's the fuss about? Aside from its health benefits in the kitchen, it's also become a beauty staple in the bathroom, thanks to its gentle and 100% natural ingredients.

1. It’s Anti-Ageing

As coconut oil contains high levels of vitamin E, saturated fat and Lauric acid, it retains the moisture content of the skin; as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores on skin. It also contributes to cellular health and tissue repair, leaving skin smooth, nourished and pump. Encourage your clients to work it into their daily skincare regime as a moisturiser or night cream to see the benefits.

2. It Gives Hair A Boost

If your client has dry or broken tresses, coconut oil is their new best friend. Rich in anti-microbial properties and proteins, it penetrates the hair shaft and locks moisture in whilst the medium-chain fatty acids strengthen the hair, condition the scalp, and help to regrow strands. It can be used as a leave-in or wash-out mask for 10 minutes, a finishing product to tame frizz (use sparingly) or a dandruff treatment.

3. It’s A Must Have For Hydration

Whether you use it for dry skin, eczema or psoriasis, coconut cream can soothe a vast amount of skin ailments, thanks to its high fat content; when it comes to skincare, fat is our friend. Although an oil, it sinks into the skin quickly making it an ideal body moisturiser – especially if your client wants to target scars or stretch marks. It also makes for a fantastic lip balm and shaving cream, to lubricate the razor and protect against any rashes.

4. It Deeply Cleanses

Wipes, gels and soaps can take their toll on skin in the quest to remove make-up and grime, due to their drying ingredients. However, coconut oil is gentle enough to use on the delicate eye area whilst stripping off every ounce of make-up effortlessly – it'll even melt off waterproof mascara. And there's no need to rinse, simply use a cotton wool ball/pad to take off the excess, and let the oil sink into the skin as an effective night cream.

5. Great For Brushes

Our cosmetic brushes may give us defined cheekbones and a flawless finish, but they also harbour more bacteria than a toilet seat. Keeping them clean not only stops blemishes and skin conditions in their tracks, it also gives the best overall results. Massaging coconut oil into the bristles will melt away any dirt and grime, and its antibacterial properties will kill any nasties.

6. It’s Good For Your Mouth

Thanks to its antifungal and antibacterial properties, gargling for 20 minutes with a spoonful of oil can help clear up germs in the mouth, leading to fresher breath, whiter teeth, and healthier gums. If your client is enquiring about whitening tips, suggest they brush their teeth with some coconut oil after their regular toothpaste and leave on overnight or all day.

With these useful tips, your clients could soon benefit from the powers of this wonder oil.
