Personal Training Success Stories: Sam

Sam - Personal Training

Sam Hickery proves it’s never too late to reach your goals!

Sam never let his dreams of having an exciting career in the fitness industry wander too far from his mind. After working as an engineer for 16 years, his life took an unexpected turn due to a serious health issue and he was unexpectedly laid off. Not one to let bad news get him down, Sam saw the opportunity to finally go for what he had always wanted, a way to convert his long-time passion for health and fitness into a rewarding career. It was time to hit the books and re-train!

After doing some research into training providers, Sam contacted us at The Training room. He says “Everyone I dealt with at The Training Room was extremely professional from the outset. They made me feel valued from the start and that has continued throughout my experience with them. The 3-year career support was also a key aspect for me while starting my career in a new industry. It’s always nice to have some assistance whilst taking the first steps”.

Sam decided to make the most of the time he had available as a result of being laid off and chose to take the fast-track course. This allowed him to really focus on his future while getting qualified for his new career and earning a living much quicker than going to college or university. He has a young family to care for and it was important to him to fit his study time around his family life. Our fast-track course allowed him to do just that.

Here’s what Sam had to say about his fast-track personal training course: “I really enjoyed that it was in a gym setting, I didn’t really know what to expect going into it and I was worried it would all be in a classroom and be really stale and boring. But it was in a professional facility and had some great practical elements that I really enjoyed. The knowledge you gain is fantastic and it’s not just about lifting weights, it really was an eye opener on what it takes to work in the fitness industry”.

Sam passed his personal training course with flying colours and was able to start work as a qualified PT right away. He began instructing classes and even worked with a GP referral scheme to help people regain their fitness and mobility after an injury or illness. Although very happy in this position, Sam has big dreams for this exciting new career and plans to return to The Training Room to study our popular Level 4 course in strength and conditioning.

Sam says “As The Training Room’s Level 3 course was so interesting the Level 4 strength and conditioning programme must be on another level! I am also doing some CPD’s with The Training Room, these are in Gym Based Boxing, Studio Cycling and Metabolic Circuits. I’ve even thought about life after my Level 4 qualification and quite like the idea of going into Sports Psychology”.

We asked Sam what advice he would give to anyone about to start a personal training course with us at The Training Room, he said: “Always ask questions, no matter how silly you think the questions are. Asking questions will help you become a better PT and access the knowledge of the tutors, they know so much and are always willing to help!”.

We wish Sam the best of luck for his bright future ahead.
