Events Management Success Stories: Stephen

Stephen - Events Management

Why did you choose to take an Events Management course?

I’ve been a trained drama teacher for over 20 years; the industry and profession has changed a lot over those years and I just wasn’t enjoying my job as much as I used to. That led me to rethink my current position and find something else.

I didn’t want my experience to go to waste but I wanted to try something different. I saw the events management course as a great way of learning new skills to help launch new business.

Why did you choose The Training Room?

I did some research on the qualifications and affordability and found The Training Room’s course to be the best option and most financially viable. With the course being based online, it really suited me as I feel completing coursework reflects the real world better than studying for a year and then taking exams.

How did you find fitting the course around your other commitments/your lifestyle?

I actually found it really easy because I had given up teaching prior to starting the course and my kids were at school during the day. This gave me plenty of time to focus on studying. Overall, I found it very straightforward and didn’t find it hard slotting it around my home life and managed to finish the course in just 2 months!

Tell me about your career since graduating from The Training Room?

I am now running my own business, Chameleon Productions! It’s a theatre company for 3-year olds all the way up to adults. I have written up a 3-year business plan and have used what I have learned on the events management course to organise shows and live public events. The business is going to start locally and then expand into other areas as it grows; eventually the goal is to move internationally. I have a lot of connections based all around the UK from working in the industry for 20 years, so it is all really exciting and am looking forward to seeing where this will take me.

Having completed the course, what advice would you give people considering it themselves?

The best advice I can give is to anyone thinking of taking the events management course is to plan your time effectively. Make sure you give yourself enough time to complete the course without feeling like you’re rushing; it adds more stress and pressure by not giving yourself enough time. It only took me 2 months to complete the course (even though I had 12 months to complete it) as I made sure I was completing multiple modules every week. This pace really suited me.

What benefit do you see to other students who are thinking of taking a course with us?

You really do learn a lot and develop an array of skills while you’re studying. I felt it really helped develop my communication skills and interpersonal skills and has helped me market and advertise my own business.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Everyone at The Training Room has been really helpful, any queries I had always had a response within an hour. Thank you everyone!
