Becky - Teaching Assistant
What were your motivations for becoming a Teaching Assistant?
Ever since I was little, my dream job has always been to become a Teaching Assistant. I love children and want to become an important factor in guiding their future and watching their knowledge grow and expand.
What were you doing before the course?
Before I startred my Teaching Assistant course at The Training Room, I was working full-time at Red Bus Nursery and Pre-School. My role was, and still is, an unqualified Nursey Practitioner so I already have relevant experience.
Why did you choose The Training Room?
I actually heard of The Training Room through the Red Bus Nursery and Pre-School! After speaking with two colleagues, it transpired that they were both in the process of completing a Teaching Assistant course with The Training Room.
They suggested that I should do the course and, after comparing a handful of different courses, I found that The Training Room's course was the cheapest, most flexible (a necessity for my work commitments) and enabled you to get the most out of.
What did you enjoy about the course?
For me, there were two things that I enjoyed the most about the Teaching Assistant course: getting the chance to complete a real work placement within a school and the level of further knowledge I have gained throughout the experience.
Did you find it a challenge to fit your course around other commitments/your lifestyle?
At the beginning, trying to find a balance between work commitments and my course was difficult, but I was soon able to prioritise and balance my time. The biggest challenge I encountered, however, would have to be how strict the guidelines are for answers and how specific your answer needs to be - it is not something you can simply rush!
Did you utilise the Career Support Team?
My Career Support Officer, Megan, is so lovely, helpful and approachable. She is in constant contact to ensure I'm happy and progressing well - she replies quickly and is great at coming up with the best possible result.
Tell me about your career since graduating from The Training Room - what have you done and what does your future look like?
I have signed up with Teaching Personnel, a Teaching Assistant Recruitment Agency, who are helping me to find work in either Primary or Secondary Schools with SEN children. My aim is to secure a job through the agency that I'm really happy in and then within 5 years be settled.
Having completed the course, what advice would you give people who are considering it themselves?
If you are thinking about getting into Teaching, then this is the course for you. For me, it is hands down the best decision I have ever made in order to fulfil my career and happiness.
