Personal Trainer Success Stories: Paul

Paul - Personal Trainer

What were your motivations for getting into Personal Training?

I hit a point where I was at a crossroads in my career and, after some reflection, identified personal training as a pathway which I thought would marry up two of my passions – health and fitness, and helping other people.

What were you doing before the course?

Prior to the course I have been working as a qualified lawyer and CIPD-qualified HR professional, working my way up into HR leadership positions by my early to mid-thirties. I chose to requalify as a Personal Trainer aged 39!

Why did you choose The Training Room?

Through my own research into the various providers, The Training Room came highly rated for its course delivery – which was important to me. In addition, my Personal Trainer at the time actually recommended The Training Room to me.

What did you enjoy about the course?

My tutor – Martin – was excellent and provided prompt and insightful support throughout my studies. I couldn’t have asked for more!

E-learning was also the perfect method of learning for me. Not only was it entirely online (which came into its own during lockdown), but it was also self-paced, meaning that I could fit study around my family and other commitments.

Were you able to fit your course around other commitments/your lifestyle?

Yes – as aforementioned, e-learning enabled this. In the end, I got both the Level 2 and Level 3 courses complete in a little over 4 months.

What's the biggest challenge you encountered on your course?

For me, the anatomy and physiology modules were tough – particularly for someone who hadn’t even done biology A-level - but I got there.

On the other hand, a memorable aspect of the course was the support and delivery from my tutor Martin.

How have you used your qualification?

I received a little help from the Career Support team on my CV format. I had always had Ultimate Performance in mind for a job, as I had previously been a client there and, after qualifying in March this year, I secured a Personal Trainer role at Ultimate Performance.

Tell me about your career since graduating from The Training Room – what have you done and what does your future look like?

I have been with Ultimate Performance for just over a month and the learning journey continues! It has surpassed all expectations, and I am excited about the future here. I’ve also been completing some internal training with them too.

Having completed the course, what advice would you give people who are considering it themselves?

It truly is never too late to requalify and do something different. The person who works for passion does not really work at all. Do what you love to do! If it is personal training, The Training Room will open the door. It’s down to you to walk through it.
