Zoltan - Software Development
What was the reason you chose to take a Software Development course?
Technology and science are two things that have always peaked my interest and I've always known that I want to get into and learn programming - even back when I was in primary school! Next week, I'm going to visit CERN - the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Switzerland - which is the pinnacle of these two things.
What were you doing before the course?
Previously, I worked as a Clinical Research Assistant - essentially, though, that was just paperwork without fulfilment. In the long term, I knew what I wanted to do and, in my eyes, software development is one of the most important technological tools.
Why did you choose The Training Room?
It began with me knowing that it was time to properly begin investigating the potential pathways into my dream career. I selected The Training Room as, essentially, it was one of the first options I encountered on Google that looked legitimate, so I went for it!
What did you enjoy about the course?
I loved that I could take the course and progress at my own rhythm. I was able to take some time off when necessary and then study intensely when time allowed.
What was your experience of the course? Did you feel supported during your studies?
I didn't always feel confident in my abilities throughout the course and I particularly struggled to find enough time, motivation and willpower to study when life got busy. However, having Paul as my tutor was great as he was there whenever I needed some advice or encouragement.
How have you used your qualification?
I've not yet had a real opportunity to utilise my qualification as I'm still completing some modules. I have, however, landed my first developer job - thank you to the Career Support Team!
Tell me about your career since graduating from The Training Room - what have you done and what does your future look like?
I've not graduated The Training Room just yet - it was only a few weeks ago that I completed the first half of the course! Currently, I am just beginning to study some other modules but, at the same time, I've also started building my career as a developer.
Having completed the course, what advice would you give people who are considering it themselves?
Read the material, write down the definitions in a notebook and go over them. This really seemed to help me a lot when memorising it. Also, make sure you do the tests many times. At the end of the day, the course is not teaching you if you are not learning it.
I was sceptical about the course at first, but now I have a developer job - literally because of the course! The people are all really friendly, helpful and prompt.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
The only thing I'd like to add is that if willing to put in the work, anyone can do it.
