Why did you do a Web Development course with The Training Room?

My bachelors degree was in Computer Systems Engineering and my favourite unit was Web Design and Database Manipulation. After I completed my masters in Medical Imaging I realised I didn’t want to go down that route with my career; I thought back to my time at university and what I enjoyed most. Web Design stuck out in my mind so I looked to get employed as a Web Developer. Unfortunately, all the roles I found required skills and certifications that I didn’t have. I decided to get certified through The Training Room to help me get the certifications I needed to work as a Web Developer.

What were you doing before the course?

After I finished my masters I worked as an engineer in a car garage. I didn’t really enjoy it and knew it wasn’t something I wanted to make a career out of. I spent a month abroad visiting family and it gave me the head space to decide how to progress my career.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

My tutors were fantastic! Whenever I had any kind of query my tutor responded very quickly and with valuable advice. I got lots of feedback throughout the course which was always very useful. My tutor helped me keep on top of deadlines and it always felt like he genuinely cared about me passing my exams.

How did you find fitting the course around your work commitments?

I decided to keep working full time throughout my course – I was working in a bar so didn’t have a huge amount of time spare. It took a lot of dedication and strict time management, but with that I was able to complete my course whilst holding down a full-time job; it’s achievable if you’re really committed.

What advice would you give anyone wanting to become a Web Developer?

Getting into Web Development isn’t easy: it’s a very competitive industry where you need to prove you are capable. To do this you need qualifications and certifications to make yourself stand out.
