Lucy - Beauty Therapy
Why did you do a beauty course with The Training Room?
I always wanted study beauty therapy, but I was keen to start my career as soon as possible. The fast-track course appealed to me as I would be able to get qualified in just 12-weeks rather than over 2 years if I studied somewhere else. I also loved the fact that The Training Room offer a complete comprehensive package including career support alongside the qualifications! The course was great value for money, and I feel really supported in taking the first steps into my new career.
What did you enjoy about the course?
I loved the fact we were in a small group and we all helped each other out, it provided a fantastic atmosphere in the classroom. The tutors were lovely and made us all feel relaxed as they were so friendly, by the time we had finished it felt like we were a little family and I will genuinely miss my tutors.
How did you find fitting the course around your personal life?
It is hard work and you do have to make time for it, however the course was only held over 12 weeks, so it is really worth it.
What were you doing before the course?
I’ve been a nurse for 11 years, I’ve done almost anything a nurse can do from hospital work, nursing homes and even nursing in surgeries. I have enjoyed my career in healthcare but feel that there is a real lack of progression and that you just don’t get rewarded for hard work.
What are you doing now you've finished the course?
I’ve just started my induction at Macdonald Hotels, everyone so far seems really friendly. I’m about to start my Elemis training there and I’m really looking forward to it! It’s a fantastic product and opens up so many avenues in the beauty industry.
How did you find the career support?
My career support advisor was amazing! I was in contact with her before I had even finished my exams, so she could get me into work as quickly as possible. She also helped me to create a stronger CV to help me stand out to employers and sent it off to a variety of corporate partners in my area. I had responses almost instantly, my career advisor really helped me get my role.
What advice would you give anyone thinking of becoming a beauty therapist?
If you truly have a passion for beauty and want to work in the beauty industry then do it! My advice for anyone about to start training to become a beauty therapist is to practice as much as possible, whether that’s on friends or family it’s great way to hone your skills and your friends and family get free treatments so it’s a win win!
