Personal Trainer Success Stories: Malcolm

Malcolm - Personal Trainer

What were your motivations for getting into Personal Training?

I have trained in a gym for many years, with modest success, and went on to work with two excellent personal trainers who gave me so much help and assistance. That inspired me to go on and help others in the same way!

I spoke with the two trainers at my gym and it turns out they had previously studied at The Training Room so recommended the course to me.

What did you enjoy about the course?

I loved learning with other likeminded people who shared an interest in fitness training. For me, the practical work was the most fun, but the theory work was also very interesting.

Were you able to fit your course around other commitments/your lifestyle?

Yes, no difficulties here - I was able to scale back my work commitments as I was working as a self-employed private English tutor.

What was your experience of the course?

My tutor was both very knowledgeable and approachable. If I had any queries or issues whilst working at home, he was always on hand to respond to my emails very quickly. Although, it was a challenge to take on a large amount of information in a relatively short time.

Did you utilise the career support team?

Yes, I received advice on how to structure my CV as well as tips for the interview. I've since been offered a job on my first interview and have started working as a Personal Trainer/Fitness Instructor at PureGym.

Tell me about your career since graduating from The Training Room - what have you done and what does your future look like?

Since graduating, I've started working for PureGym in Finsbury Park, which is really exciting! My role as Fitness Instructor involves shift work, teaching glasses and conducting inductions. My Personal Training work is still very much in its early stages, but I hope that it will take off in the coming months.

Have you completed any other training since graduating with us?

Not yet, although this is something I want to progress with - I have booked onto CPD courses in Gym Boxing, Circuits and Spin Cycling.

Having completed the course, what advice would you give people who are considering it themselves?

You must ensure you have the time available to fully commit to the course as it involves a lot of dedication, homework and revision. I began my revision before the course started - that definitely helped a lot. And finally, go ahead and do it!
