The Training Room - Personal Trainer Courses

Previous Occupation: Shelf stacker at Sainsbury's

Reasons for wanting to become a Personal Trainer

I always had a keen interest in sport and how the body works. Didn't want a simple 9-5 office job. I wanted something that provided a varied day and a chance to meet different and interesting people, and try and help them achieve their goals and improve their lives.

Reason for choosing The Training Room

It was a course which provided a wide range of qualifications and a chance to experience something new. Also a good way to live away from home in a great location but wasn't too far away from home, if I needed to come back.

Which aspect of the course did you enjoy the most?

Surprisingly, aerobics. We all had a good laugh over that. It was also great to share a house with other people on the course and gain some life experience.

Description of current position, pay and duties

I work at the gym of the Met office in Exeter my duties include general gym work, inductions, fitness tests, aerobics and Exercise to Music. I am there about 20 hours per week. I also take clients for personal training sessions for a company called Body Active Training. I mainly do Exercise to Music with this company, either in a gym or at people's houses. The company gets £30 per session for this and I get £24 of that.

How would you recommend The Training Room to people considering a career as a personal trainer?

It is a brilliant course and you learn so much. Also, while on the course, I was a bit sceptical of Exercise to Music, but it is now where I get most of my work.

Would you be willing for potential students to contact you for advice and guidance?

Yes
